Curriculum
Kindergarten: God Made the World (K4) and God Loves Us (K5) is a comprehensive early childhood program designed to nurture and enrich the faith and spiritual lives of children. The developmentally appropriate curriculum is carefully planned so that, at completion, the children are ready to continue their faith journey into first grade and beyond. (from www.loyolapress.com)
1st – 5th grade: Finding God: Our Response to God’s Gifts from is based on a spiral curriculum that integrates the fundamental themes of the Catechism of the Catholic Church with Scripture and Catholic Social Teachings. As children are introduced to and revisit concepts and vocabulary from one year to the next, their knowledge and experience both broaden and deepen. This program provides lessons in the faith and delivers those lessons through experiential activities that encourage lifelong practice. (from www.loyolapress.com)
6th -8th grade: Using an active, hands-on approach to religious education, Catholic Connections, from St Mary’s Press, is a comprehensive parish religious education program that introduces young adolescents to Jesus Christ in a new way and inspires them to follow Him. Catholic Connections aims to strengthen the participants' Catholic identity and inspire them to participate more fully in the Church's mission. (from www.smp.org)

FAMILY SUNDAYS

Who: children in K4 – 8 th grade AND their families. At least one adult must attend. Siblings in high school may participate in the adult sessions or volunteer to help as a classroom aide or with breakfast (service hours!)
When: 8:30a – 12:00p – begins with 8:30 Mass; followed by breakfast and formation meets once a month for 9 sessions (total of 18 hours)
Where: St Eugene Parish, 7600 N Port Washington Road, Fox Point

The purpose of our Family Sundays program is to provide families with opportunities to grow together in faith and renew their commitment to Christ. During this monthly mini-retreat, families are invited to expand their knowledge of Scripture and Catholic tradition, join in prayer, and participate in faith-based activities in a fun and relaxing atmosphere. Most importantly, the Family Sundays program strives to equip families with the tools and resources to build households of faith. Each family will receive a Catholic Family Connections Bible!

After Mass, everyone eats and prays together. Once the topic has been introduced, students go to classrooms to learn about this subject in age-appropriate ways. During this time, adults will explore the same theme with a speaker. At the end, we come together to share what we have learned and pray a closing prayer. Families are given materials to do at home to enhance their faith life. Some of the topics planned for this year are: Praying as a Family, Catholic Social Justice: The Dignity of Human Life, Epiphany: Following Christ, Understanding and Living the Mass, and Sacred Heart of Jesus.

SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION FOR FIRST RECONCILIATION AND FIRST EUCHARIST

Child must attend one of these options: Sunday School, Family Sundays, St Eugene School or St Monica School. Families should be members of St Eugene or St Monica (if not members, contact the Director of Child Ministry).

All students participating in Sacramental Preparation (from Child Ministry and the Catholic schools) will attend several meetings with a parent in addition to their regular catechesis. Each family meeting will be offered several times (weeknights and weekends) to allow parents to choose what works best for their family. Families will be given materials to review at home with their child(ren). This exciting year includes painting a candle to be used at the First Reconciliation Service, a “behind-the-scenes” church tour, baking unleavened bread, and much more!

Students in the Family Sundays Program will have approximately six extra sessions on Sunday mornings (in addition to the regular Family Sundays) during the year for instruction

If you have a child older than 2nd grade or an adult in your family who has not been baptized in the Catholic Church or received Reconciliation and Eucharist, we welcome you! Please contact the Director of Child Ministry to develop a personalized plan for preparation.
